New trial date coming for Vick on state charges
The prosecutor in Michael Vick’s state dogfighting case expects a new trial date to be set Tuesday. Surry County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerald Poindexter said Monday he was working with the suspended NFL quarterback’s lawyers to determine the date. The trial originally was scheduled for April 2. Vick is serving a 23-month prison term in Leavenworth, Kan., after pleading guilty to a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge.

Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden seems to be leaning heavily toward retirement, based on comments he made to the Las Vegas Review-Journal earlier this week.

Although he hasn’t officially made a decision, Jonathan Ogden likely won’t be returning to the Ravens.

The 11-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle recently said the Ravens “know to proceed with their offseason plans as if I’m retiring.”

Ogden has contemplated retirement since last offseason because of a hyperextended big toe. He didn’t play in the Pro Bowl this year because of the injury.

The Ravens likely need a decision from Ogden before the NFL Draft at the end of April.

“I have not officially retired,” Ogden told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “So if I come back, it’s great, they said, but they’re proceeding as if I’m not.”

Ogden, the first draft pick in the Ravens’ history, has been the cornerstone of the offense for 12 seasons.
